a brief timeline

AS FAR BACK AS I CAN REMEMBER– I always wanted to be a story teller.

As soon as I could hold a crayon, I began authoring my own stories. Using pieces of printer paper folded in half and stapled together, I let my illustrations tell the tale. As I got older, I spent my days reading, writing, and illustrating stories. But eventually, I got bored and craved something more exciting. I delved into theatrics—drama, dance, singing, costumes. Every time we had company, my sisters, friends and I were lighting up the marquee and started casting calls immediately. I loved the entire process, start to finish. But despite all this, I wanted more. I wanted more control. I wanted something that lasted past the curtain call. Something I could keep forever.

My friends and I re-creating a women’s suffrage march to
use as B-Roll in our mini- documentary about Susan B.
Anthony for National History day in 2014.

I wanted lights. I wanted cameras. I wanted ActION.

I was introduced to my first editing software when I was thirteen. It was called iMovie, and it changed my life. I was making a documentary with a friend for National History Day Contest. Both passionate about women’s rights, we made a documentary about Susan B. Anthony. This was where I discovered my love for editing. Everything snowballed from here. Soon enough, I was making my own videos: skits, short films, music videos, vlogs, and content for social media. Since then, I’ve continued taking every opportunity to practice my skills and try everything I can. I am most passionate about making people laugh and bringing awareness to social issues– especially ones that don’t get as much exposure as they deserve. I’ve continued to make several documentaries, hosted and produced a podcast, directed and produced numerous live shows for my University’s broadcasting system, spent a summer in a newsroom, another summer at a radio station, and a year at a marketing agency. All the while picking up freelance work, and working on my own personal projects. I try to look at everything as practice.

Making people laugh

Comedy is a passion of mine. In my dream job, I want to be able to make people laugh. I would love to work on a television show as a writer/producer/director. I have a passion for leadership and aspire to one day be able to guide a team in collaboration to create amazing things together.

shining a spotlight in the shadows

Bringing awareness to different social issues and telling stories that aren’t told as often as they should is another thing I that drives my work. In a world where we have a seemingly infinite source of information at our fingertips, it always strikes me as odd when I can’t find sources on things I am interested in. I’m passionate about justice. I believe in the importance of uplifting voices. I want to give a platform to those whose voices can get lost among the noise.

making a difference

In order for me to feel fulfilled in my future career, I want to be able to know that I am making a difference. I believe knowledge is power and awareness is the first step to making change. But it’s human emotion that is the catalyst to action. You can teach someone a lot just by telling a story. If you’re doing your job right, you can make them feel a lot too.
